What are industrial relations? It refers to how employers and employees relate or interact with each other
What are trade unions? Organisations set up by workers to protect and improve their members' interests
What are the roles of trade unions? Negotiate with employers for better pay and working conditions
What is a shop steward? A person elected by union members to represent them at work place level
What is ICTU? Irish Congress of Trade Unions.The body which represents a number of member trade unions
What is IBEC? Irish business and employers confederation. This body represents employers nationally
What is conciliation? The use of third party to help the side in dispute reach a settlement
What is arbitration? The use of third party,such the labour court, to make a recommendation which settles a dispute
