What is repiratory distress? When someone is struggling to get air.
How do you know if somebody is choking? the universal choking sign, and coughing forcefully
What do you do if somebody is choking? Tell them to keep coughing,have someone call 9-1-1, and stay with them.
Why do you tell them to keeep coughing? if they keep coughing,they may be able to get the object up on their own.(when they're still coughing,they are still getting air)
Why do you have someone call 9-1-1? they may be getting air now but,they may stop getting air at some point.
What is it called if they stop coughing? respiratory arrest
What do you do if they stop coughing? begin the life saving techniques used when someones airway is completely blocked.
What is respiratory arrest? when someone is not getting any air
How do you gain expressed consent? Say your name,say your trained, and ask if you can help
What should you do in case somebody becomes uncouncious? Position yourself to the side of the person with one foot up to theirs, and your back leg behind theirs. so you can catch them.
When you bend them over, should their head be parallel to the floor? yes
Where should you place the heel of your hand on their back? between the shoulder blades
Should your hear a hollow sound when giving the 5 back blows? yes
How many fingers above their belly button should you place your fist? 2 fingers above the belly button
What do you do after you have placed your fist? reach around with your other hand and place on top of your fist and give 5 upper abdominal thrusts
What is the diaphragm muscle? it is located below the lungs, and above the stomache.
What are you doing when giving 5 abdominal thrusts? you're pushing up on the diaphragm and forcing air out of the lungs to push the object out of the airway.
How long do you continue the 5 and 5 technique? until the object is forced out or the person becomes unconcious.
What do you do with your arms if they become unconcious? lock them under their shoulders and pull them towards your body, support their body and head then lower them to the ground.
