administrative rights Permission to make changes on a computer system.
administrator account A collection of into that determines which files you can access and which settings you use.
driver A small program that instructs the operating system on how to operate specific hardware.
embedded operating system Smaller and generally less capable than desktop operating systems(similar in principle to Windows and Linux).
emulation card A card that provides the ability for the computer to run a program that was designed for a different operating system.
file system Determines the way an operating system stores files on disk.
handheld operating system Operating systems written for mobile devices.
Linux A variant of the UNIX operating system.
Mac OS The Macintosh operating system.
operating system System software that provides am interface between the user or application program and the computer hardware.
Palm OS An operating system that runs on Palm handhelds and other third-party devices.
system administrator A user who has an administrator account.
UNIX Operating system developed by AT&T. It is considered portable, meaning it can run on just about any hardware platform.
Windows Embedded CE An operating system designed for deguces such as a figital cameras, security robots, intelligent appliances, gaming devices, GPS, and set top-boxes
Windows Mobile A version of the Windows operating system that runs on smart phones and other types of handheld computers.
