Define the word "computer" and name the four basic operations that a computer performs A computer system is a collection of related components that have been designed to perform the information processing cycle: input, processing, output, and storage.
Describe the two main components of a computer system: Hardware and software. Hardware: Physical components like the system unit, keyboard, monitor, and speakers. Software: The programs that run it.
Provide examples of hardware devices that handle input, processing, output, and storage tasks. Input: Keyboard or mouse. Processing: Microprocessor(CPU) on programs and data held in RAM
An example of the information processing cycle in action. Information processing cycle is something that performs four operations: input, processing, output, and storage. A computer is a good example in action.
Discuss the two major categories and the various types of computers. Two major categories are computers for individuals and for organizations. Individuals: PCs, desktops, all-in-one computers, handheld computers (smartphones), etc... Organizations: professional workstations, servers, minicomputers, mainframes, etc..
Advantages and disadvantages of computers Advantages: speed, memory, storage, accuracy, reliability, assistance to those with disabilities. Disadvantages: overload, expense, data inaccuracy, viruses, identity theft, health problems, etc...
Recognizing the ethical and societal impacts of computer use. Societal- method of connectivity that's inexpensive and globally accessible. Ethical: able to analyze their customers and keep an eye on competitors.
How computers effect employment. New job opportunities, shifting labor demand toward skilled workers, helping people complete their work, increasing productivity.
Ways to be a responsible computer user. Respecting others, recycling computer hardware, sharing public computing resources, being aware of computer and Internet overuse, and staying informed about changing technology and its effect on the environment
