Sexual/Asexual Reproduction

Fungal ElementDefinition
Conidia Reproductive structures produced by an asexual mode
Spore Reproductive structures produced sexually, also the asexual propagules of the Zygomycetes
Conidiophore Structure that supports conidia
Sporangium Saclike structure where sporangiospores are formed (Zygomycetes)
Arthroconidia Directly from hyphae by modification of cell wall (barrels)
Blastoconidia Budding of cell, ie. yeast
Chlamydoconidia Directly from hyphae (swelling)
Ascospore Sexual spore formed in a saclike structure following meiosis
Zygospore Round, thick-walled spore produced in a saclike structure by fusion of two hyphal tips of zygomycete
Basidiospore Spore formed in a club-shaped reproductive structure following meiosis
