What are the elements of design? space, line, texture, color, & form
What are the principles of design? balance, emphasis, movement, pattern, repitition, proportion, rhythm, variety, & unity
What is the principle repetition? a design is copied or repeated
How does texture affect color? smooth surface reflect more light than rough surfaces; rough surfaces absorb more light
What do curved lines suggest? adds a soft, graceful effect to designs
What is the difference between horizontal, vertical, and radial balance? horizontal: left & right parts are equal; vertical: top & bottom parts are equal; radial: elements radiate out from design
What do diagonal lines suggest? suggest action, movement, & excitement
What is space? the area provided for a particular purpose
What are the four types of rhythm? gradiation, radiation, repitition, & continuous line
What is asymmetrical balance? Example?
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines? horizontal: leads the eye left to right; vertical: leads the eye up
What is the golden mean? 3:5 ratio
What is the difference between shape and form? shape: 2-dimensional form: 3-dimensional
What are the five types of balance? asymmetrical, symmetrical, vertical, horizontal, & radical
What does unity or harmony mean? all elements & principles of design work together
What are the two things texture involves? how it feels to the touch & how it appears to feel
What are the four types of line? horizontal, vertical, diagonal, & curved
What is proportion? how the design is visually divided

What is emphasis? What is another name for it? one object or item stands out; focal point
What happens when you use a continuous line? design creates a continuous line for the eye to follow
What is another name for symmetrical balance? formal balance
What is another name for asymmetrical balance? informal balance
