Terms to Know: Medical Terminology

WordDefinition
Pelvis The basin-shaped bone in the body which lies between the legs; bordered by the two hip bones
Scapula Collarbone
Humerus Bone which runs from the shoulder to the elbow
Radius Bone of the lower arm (on the thumb side)
Ulna Bone of the lower arm (pinky side)
Midline The imaginary line which divides the body into the left and right "halves"
Anterior Situated toward the front of the body
Posterior Situated toward the hind part of the body
Medial Lying or extending to the middle
Lateral Relating to the side
Proximal Next to or near the point of attachment or origin
Distal Situated away from the point of attachment/ origin
Flexion Bending movement that decreases the angle between two parts.
Extension A straightening movement that increases the angle between body parts
