Elements and Principles of Design

What are the elements of design? Line, Shape, Color, Texture
What are the principles of design? Balance, emphasis, proportion, rhythm
What is the principle repetition? when a pattern on an outfit is repetive
How does texture affect color? It can increase or decrease the look of a person's body size
What type of textures increase a persons body size? Shiny or glossy, Thick, Bulky, shaggy, fuzzy, wrinkled
What do curved lines suggest? increases the size of the body
What do diagonal lines suggest? counters vertical and horizontal lines
What are the four types of rhythm? repetition, gradation, and radiation of colors, lines, shapes and textures
What is asymmetrical balance? Example? When an outfit is cut down the middle and almost the same on each sie
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical lines? horizontal lines go sideways and verical lines go up and down
What does harmony mean, how is it achieved? All parts look as if they belong together The elements of design and principles of design are working together
What are the two things texture involves? sight and touch
What are the four types of line? Verticle, horizontal, diagonal, curved
What is proportion? How the size of one part relates to the size of another part
What is symmetrical balance? Example? when two sides of an outfit can be split down the middle and be exactly the same on bot sides
What is emphasis? What is another name for it? center of interest
What is another name for symmetrical balance? exactly the same
What is another name for asymmetrical balance? the same but not exactly
What is the difference between gradation and radiation? Gradation is when you have the same color but different shades. Radiation is when the color gets bigger.
