federalism the distribution of power in a government between a central authority and the constituent
legislative branch the branch in charge of making laws, consisting of the congress as well as several government agencies
executive branch the branch that carries out and inforces laws, consisting of the president, vice president, the cabinet, executive departments as well as other boards, commisions and committees.
judicial branch the branch in charge of deciding the meaning of laws, consisting of the supreme court

amendment the process of altering or amending a law or document (such as a constitution) by parliamentary or constitutional procedure
