QuestionAnswer
Different themes in Of Mice and Men? Companionship, Loneliness and Dreams
How is Crooks’s room different to the bunkhouse (where the rest of the ranch workers sleep)? Crooks is alone and does not share his space with anybody.
What is the significance of Crooks’ room joining onto the barn? Crooks is treated disrespectfully, almost as if he were an animal.
Why does Lennie like George to tell him about the dream of the farm repeatedly? It gives him something to look forward to.
What is the significance of the line: We’d know what come of our planting? George and Lennie never benefit from the work they do, apart from their wages. When they own the farm they will be working for themselves and so will be able to enjoy what they grow for the first time.
Why does George repeat the word belong? The point of the dream is that they will have somewhere of their own and will no longer have to move around
Why might Crooks have kept his distance and demanded that other people keep theirs? He knows that the others look down on him because of his race so he keeps away from them to protect his dignity
What does the description of Curley’s wife in this extract suggest about her character? She was not a completely bad person; she acted badly because of her experiences
Where does Lennie go when he leaves the barn? To the place near the river where he and George slept at the start of the book
