Bill | A draft of a plan that has been presented to a legislature but has not yet become a law |
Compromise | An agreement reached between two disagreeing sides after each side has given something up |
Democrats | Political party in the U.S. that typically advocates for equal rights, climate and worker protections, and a strong social safety net (like support for poorer families and accessible health care) |
Executive Branch | The part of the government that executes and enforces laws |
Federalism | A political system in which states give some powers to a central government while keeping a limited amount of self-government |
Judicial Branch | The part of the government that interprets laws and administering justice; the court system |
Legislative Branch | The part of the government with the power to make laws |
Ratify | Formal approval of a law, treaty, or constitution |
Republican | A political party in the U.S. that typically advocates for lower taxes, smaller government, protections for the family, energy independence, and greater self-reliance |
Veto | Reject or cancel a proposed bill, treaty or action |
