| What are scalawags? | A white Southerner who joined together with northern Republicans during Reconstruction, often so they could get something out of it for themselves. The term was used snuffly by white Southern Democrats who didn't agree with the Reconstruction legislation. |
| What are the Enforcement Acts? | They were criminal codes which protected African-Americans' right to vote, to hold office, to serve on juries, and receive equal protection of laws. |
