Triangular Trade | Colonial trade route that exchanged goods between New England, Africa, and the West Indies |
Proclamation of 1763 | Britain's law prohibiting the British colonists from settling West of the Appalachian Mountains |
Stamp Act | In an effort to raise money following the French and Indian War, the British Parliament placed a tax on printed materials |
"No Taxation Without Representation" | The colonial slogan to express anger over not having a say about British taxation because they had no representation in Parliament |
Boston Massacre | Colonial leaders used this event as propaganda to influence the colonists to rise up against the British |
Boston Tea Party | To protest the monopoly granted to a British tea company over the tea trade in the colonies, the Sons of Liberty boarded trade ships and dumped the tea into Boston Harbor |
Intolerable Acts | Laws punishing Boston for the Boston Tea Party which included closing Boston Harbor, no public meetings, and closing down colonial assemblies |
Samuel Adams | A leader of the Sons of Liberty who started the Committee of Correspondence to stir up support for American Independence |
Thomas Paine | Wrote a pamphlet called Common Sense to convince colonists that it was time to become independent from Britain |
