Term | Definition |

Agricultural Adjustment Administration (AAA) | A New Deal program created to help farmers - gave money to farmers |
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) | A New Deal program created to 1: create jobs for unemployed young men and 2: to improve the environment. Hired to work in national parks |
Crash of 1929 | A very large crash in stock market prices that ruined many investors and helped cause The Great Depression |
depression | a LONG lasting drop in a nation's economy |
Dust Bowl | AREA OF LAND - in the Great Plains that was hit by a drought |
Drought | A PERIOD OF TIME - low rainfall |
Federal Reserve | The nation's central bank to make sure that the supply of money is managed |
imports | Goods that come INto a country |
exports | Goods that go OUT of the country to be sold to other countries |
National Labor Relations Act | a law passed during the Great Depression to help improve the rights of workers and labor unions |
New Deal | the term for the many programs and agencies created by President Franklin Roosevelt and Congress during the Great Depression |
overspeculation | Excessive and risky investment in the stock market, especially when using borrowed money |
recession | A downturn in the nation's economy that is NOT AS LONG or serious as a depression |
Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) | The New York political leader who served as a president from 1933 to early 1945; created the NEW DEAL |
Social Security | A New Deal program that created a system of payments to retired workers, widows and children of workers who die, and disabled people that are unable to work |
stocks | Certificates that represent part ownership of a business |
stock market | A place where stocks are bought and sold |
tariffs | taxes a country puts on imported goods |
unemployment rate | the percent of workers who are looking for a job, but cannot find one |
Works Progress Administration (WPA) | A New Deal program to create jobs. Construction, post office and education programs |
inflation | a general increase in prices and fall in the purchasing value of money |
