environment | the surroundings in which people, plants, and animals live |
erosion | the process by which water and wind wear away the land |
pollution | anything that makes the soil, air, or water dirty and unhealthy |
ecosystem | a community of plants and animals along with the surrounding soil, air and water |
economic system | a set of ideas that guides how a country will use its resources to produce goods |
demand | the amount of something that people want to buy for a certain price |
supply | the amount of something that producers want to make at a certain price |
competition | when businesses that sell similar goods and services try to attract the most consumers and make the most money |
What are the three economic questions? | What goods will be produced? How will they be produced? Who will receive or buy the goods? |
What are two ways that human activities change the land? | build highways and digging mines pollution and harming the environment |
What are two natural forces? | erosion and ecosystems |
Who decides what to produce in an economic system? | businesses and individuals |
interdependence | depending or relying on each other |
push and pull factors | when geography can push people out or an area or pull people into a new location |
human resources | productive resources consisting of the talents, knowledge, intelligence, or skills needed to perform a job |
capital resources | the tools, machines, buildings and other equipment needed to perform a job. |
Import | when a good is brought into the country from another country |
Export | when a good is made in the US and then shipped out of the country to be sold |
3 factors of production | labor, land, capital goods |
Labor | people work to make the product you are selling |
Land | a place to gather natural resources from or to build a factory |
Capital goods (machines) | the machines used to produce the product you are going to sell |
