| OVERBOOKING | Practice of an airline to confirm more seats on an aircraft than are actually available, designed to protect the airlines from no-shows |

| AGENT | Company employee concerned w/handling of ground phases of flight operations |
| ISC (INFLIGHT SECURITY COORDINATOR) | Captain of the flight who is charged w/overall responsibility of security related issues while the aircraft is in flight |
| AUXILIARY POWER UNIT (APU) | A separate engine on board the aircraft that provides power to the entire aircraft. |
| PAYLOAD | Total weight of passengers & cargo carried on aircraft |
| THRU PASSENGER | Passenger who has boarded the aircraft at a previous station & remains on board at the intermediate stop to continue on the flight to its destination |
| GPU (GROUND POWER UNIT) | Ground support equipment used to supply on board power (lights, heat, a/c, etc) to the aircraft |
| ALT | Alternate airport |
| LAYOVER | -Time spent on the ground between flights when passenger's itinerary involves a connection -Time spent downline between flight (crew rest) |

| BUMP | Practice of denying boarding to a confirmed passenger on an overbooked flight |
| INTERMEDIATE STATION | Scheduled stop or stops between the originating city and the final destination |
| AIRFOIL | Any surface, such as an airplane wing, designed to obtain reaction from the air thru which it moves |
| DELAY | Flight operating later than scheduled |
| RON | Remains overnight |
| GROUND SPEED | Speed of an aircraft with reference to the surface of the earth |
| FLIGHT | Movement of an aircraft from one location to another as a scheduled flight, extra section, ferry flight, test flight or training flight |
| SCHEDULED FLIGHT | Flight identified w/a flight number and is published in the timetable to originate & terminate at specific stations & times |

| REISSUE/REROUTE | Rewriting of an existing ticket due to a change in fare, class of service, or routing |
| MAAS (MEET & ASSIST) | Request for ground personnel to meet & assist a passenger |
| DEADHEAD | Transportation of a crew member from 1 point to another in order to cover a trip or return to home base |
| CABIN | Interior of aircraft where passengers are seated |
| HOLDING | Flight that is waiting for instructions to either takeoff, land or park at an available gate |
| ETD (ESTIMATED TIME OF DEPARTURE) | Time estimated for the aircraft to depart |
| RESCHEDULED FLIGHT | Change to a crewmembers assigned flight or flights due to unforeseen circumstances, i.e. cancellations, mechanicals, etc |
| NTSB (NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION SAFETY BOARD) | Gov't agency that investigates & reports for accidents and recommends solutions to the FAA |
| RAMP | Area adject to the terminal bldg for aircraft loading & unloading |
| OAL | Other airline |
| JUMPSEAT RIDER | Authorized personnel occupying the jumpseat |
| GATE | Area in terminal building where passengers gather before boarding an aircraft |
| FAA (FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION) | Govt agency that regulates safety of airline operations thru specific Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs) |
| ROUTING | How travel is arranged between origin and destination |
| AOG | Aircraft on Ground (Grounded due to maintenance) |
| STATION | Airport office in a city served by GoJet Airlines |
| OPEN TIME | Any flight time that is not assigned to a crew member |
| F/A JUMPSEAT | Collapsible seat in cabin for FA to sit during takeoff & landing |
| JUMPSEAT | Collapsible seat in the cockpit occupied by authorized personnel |
| COMAIL/COMAT | Company Mail/Company Materials |
| FERRY FLIGHT | Flight operated w/out revenue passengers, cargo or mail.. used to move aircraft to a different city to either begin a flight or undergo maintenance |
| LEG OF FLIGHT | Refers to each flight of the passenger or crew member itinerary |
| ALIEN | Non-US citizen |
| KNOT | Velocity of one nautical mile per hour |
| BLOCK-TO-BLOCK | Interval of time beginning when aircraft pulls away from gate and ends when aircraft comes to complete stop at gate at arrival city |
| NON-STOP FLIGHT | Flight that takes off at your origin point & does not land until reaches your final destination point |
| CREW REST | Required rest period by a crew after a completed trip |
| GSC (GROUND SECURITY COORDINATOR) | Employee charged w/overall responsibility of security related issues while aircraft is on the ground |
| DOWNLINE | Next station/stations in line of the flight's scheduled routing |
| WAKE TURBULENCE | The disturbance in the air caused by the passage of an airfoil |
| GATEWAY | Last departure point from a country before arriving in another country |
| ALTIMETER | Instrument that measures the height of an aircraft above sea level (in feet) |

| CITY CODE | 3 letter designation given to airport cities |
| DESTINATION | Stopping place where journey concludes |
| RUNWAY | Area used for landing and takeoff of an aircraft |
| DIVE | Steep descent |
| TAXI WAY | Paved areas connecting the ramp to the runway |
| TURN AROUND | Aircraft or flight that is used to operate into a city & originate as a new flight number out of that city |
| CHARTER FLIGHT | Aircraft & crew leased by a company for an unscheduled flight |
| ETA (ESTIMATED TIME OF ARRIVAL) | Time estimated for aircraft to arrive |
| AIR POCKET | Condition in the atmosphere than can cause an airplane to loose altitude quickly. |
| INTERLINE | When the routing from origin to destination requires 2 or more different air carriers to accommodate the passenger to their final destination |
| BEVERAGE CART | Trolley used to serve beverages |
| CFR | 1- Crash-Fire-Rescue Emergency Equipment 2- Code of Federal Regulations |
| ACM | Additional Crew Member (Jumpseat rider) |
| SEQUENCE | Series of flights paired together to produce a daily work schedule |
| STOP/STOPOVER | Intermediate stopping point on a journey, whether voluntary or involuntary |
| ORIGIN (ORIGINATING STATION) | City where the flight begins |
| GALLEY | Designated area where beverages/meals are served |
| LOCAL PASSENGER | Customer who boards the aircraft at the originating station |
| RESERVE SCHEDULE OR RESERVE DAYS | Month or day schedule requiring a crew member to be available on a "stand-by" basis in the event of unforeseen scheduling emergencies |
| UNACCOMPANIED MINOR | Children under the age of 12 traveling by themselves, without an adult |
| A/C (Aircraft) | Vehicle that can fly, i.e. airplane, helicopter or glider |
| TRANSFER | Flights requiring a change of aircraft at some intermediate point before arriving at the final destination. This change can be either online or interline. Also referred to as "connection". |
| CONCOURSE | Area of terminal where gates are located, where aircraft arrive/depart from gate and load/deplane passengers |
| RESERVE CREW | Flight crew member on standby for duty |
| PAX/PSGR (PASSENGER) | Customer who travels on a scheduled airline flight |
| AFT | Rear/back of the airplane |
| BID SHEET | Form used to bid on a line of flying for a particular month |
| ILS (INSTRUMENT LANDING SYSTEMS) | System of navigational radios used for guiding aircraft during unfavorable weather conditions such as fog |
| OFFLINE | Traveling via another airline or a combination of other airlines |
| CEILING | Distance from the ground to the underside of the clouds |
| ATC (AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL) | Controle of local air traffic in the vicinity of an airport by the FAA |
| OVERHEAD BINS | Storage compartments located over the seats inside an aircraft cabin |
| FUSELAGE | Central body portion of aircraft accomodates the payload on the aircraft |
| NRPS (NON-REVENUE POSITIVE SPACE) | Airline employee traveling on business holding a confirmed reservations |
| BOW (BASIC OPERATING WEIGHT) | The weight of an empty aircraft, plus the weight of the crew, fuel, oil, necessary publications |
| TAXI | To operate an aircraft under its own power on the ground, except when involved in takeoffs or landings. |
| ALTITUDE | Height of which the Aircraft flies above sea level |
| AIRSPEED | Velocity of an aircraft |
| NRMR (NON-REVENUE MUST RIDE) | Airline employee traveling positive space on a MUST RIDE status. This crew member needs to travel from one point to another to cover a trip or return to home base |
| AIR CARRIER | Commercial enterprise that provides scheduled flights for passengers |
| NRSA (NON-REVENUE SPACE AVAILABLE) | Airline employee traveling for personal reasons, if space is available |
| ONLINE | When travel involved only one carrier |
| BULKHEAD | Any dividing wall in the cabin of the aircraft |
| FWD (FORWARD) | Front of the aircraft towards the cockpit |
| NO-SHOW | Traveler who doesn't show for flight on which he has a reservation & fails to cancel, after which the airlines will canx all further flights on that traveler's itinerary |
| STOW | To secure baggage into a safe location in flight |
| OVERSALE | Situation which occurs when a customer has a confirmed reservation and a valid ticket but is not accommodated on the flight |
| CAPT or CA (CAPTAIN) | Pilot who's in command of the flight, sits in the left seat in the cockpit, uniform has 4 stripes on the end of the sleeves |
| LINE OF FLYING | Series of flights sequenced together to produce a monthly work schedule |
| ZULU TIME | Standard world time, based on the local time at the Prime Meridian. Used by APOLLO for inputting flight times |
| DOMICILE | City/station where crew member is based |
| CHOCKS | Blocks placed in front and behind aircraft tires to prevent rolling in the ramp gate area |
| CONNECTION/CONNECTING FLIGHT | Flights that require a change of aircraft at an intermediate point before arriving at final destination, aka "transfer" |
| BANK | -To incline the aircraft at an angle while turning left or right -A number of flights leaving a Hub city during a short period of time |
| F/A (FLIGHT ATTENDANT) | Assists passengers in safety & service onboard any aircraft seating more than 20 ppl |
| F/O (FIRST OFFICER) | Pilot who sits in right seat of cockpit, uniform has 3 stripes on end of sleeve |
| STANDBY | Traveler who doesn't have a confirmed reservation and must wait at the airline gate for a seat to become available |
| BID HOLDER | Flight attendant awarded a line of flying for a particular month |
| INTERLINE CONNECTION | Changing from a flight of one carrier to a flight of another carrier |
