RAM | Random Access Memory, speed of processing and determines what programs you can use |
ROM | Read-only memory, stores information permanently and determines how data moves |
USB | Universal serial bus - a port that small devices can be plugged into |
Bit | the smallest unit of information. A single binary character |
Byte | 8 bits. This can represent one character or once piece of information |
ASCII | A coding system used for typical characters used in writing |
Pixel | A single point in a display output |
Resolution | Number of pixels. Defines the clarity of an image |
Web cam | A digital camera that films or transmits a moving image |
Microphone | a input device for audio |
Touch pad | Similar to a mouse, but a fixed area that can be used to move the cursor around the screen. Most often seen on laptops. |
Mouse | a movable input device that determines the cursor position and can be used for 1-4 commands |
Keyboard | an input device that is used for characters |
Cache | a small set of commonly used information stored in order to speed up processing time |
Speakers | an output device for audio |
