| Question | Answer |
| FOIL CHARACTER | A character whose personality or attitudes are in sharp contrast to those of another character in the same work. |
| ANTAGONIST | A character or force in conflict with a main character, or protagonist. |
| PROTAGONIST | The main character in a literary work. |
| STATIC CHARACTER | A character that does not change throughout the course of the plot. Remains the SAME. |
| DYNAMIC CHARACTER | A character that changes throughout the story, and is different by the end. He or she may learn a lesson or have a change of heart after dealing with events that unfold in the plot. |
| ROUND CHARACTER | A complex literary character with fully developed and dynamic traits. |
| FLAT CHARACTER | A character not fully developed who seems to represent a “type” more than a real personality (see also stock character). |
| INTERNAL CONFLICT | Struggles within a character's mind. |
| EXTERNAL CONFLICT | Struggles between a character & nature, society, technology, or another character. |
