| Term | Definition |
| Graphic | Combining text and pictures in advertisement, magazine or books |
| Bleed | The side of a document that gives printer a small amount of space to account for movement of the paper, and design inconsistencies. |
| Caption | A brief explanation of a illustration |
| Dropped Cap | When the first character of a paragraph is made larger taking up several lines. |
| Pull Quote | a brief, attention-catching quote is a distinctive typeface |
| Sidebar | A short article placed on the side containing additional or related information to the reading |
| End mark | A punctuation mark occurring at the end of a sentence |
| Nameplate | Top portion of the first page of the document that contains information |
| Main Heading | A word or phrase that explains what the reading is going ot be about |
| Subheading | Any heading under the main heading of a reading |
| Byline | A credit line in an article for the author |
| Kicker | A short-lead in phrase to a narrative or chapter |
| Deck | Short article summary that accompanies the heading of an article |
| Body | Contains most of the information in a reading |
| Jumpline | The line after or before an article telling you where an article continues on or where it began |
| Running Header/Footer | A brief version of the titer of your paper normally less than 50 characters long |
