personification | gives human qualities to non-human things |
narative | tells a story in verse. they have elements similar to those in short stories such as plot and characters. |
haiku | is a three line, Japanese form that describes something in nature. the first and third lines have 5 syllables, and the second line has 7. |
Free Verse | poetry is defined by its lack of structure |
Lyric | Poetry expresses the thoughts and feelings of a single speaker, often in a highly musical verse |
Ballad | A song like poem that tells stories, they often deal with adventure or romance. |
Limerick | Are humorous, rhyming 5 lined poems with specific rhythm, pattern, and rhyme scheme. |
Concrete | Poems are shaped to look like their objects. The poet arranges the lines to create a picture on the page. |
