Borderless Network | Network architecture that allows for any devices to connect from any location at anytime. |
Access Layer | Layer of a borderless network that represents the network edge, where traffic enters or exits the campus network. |
Distribution Layer | Layer of a borderless network that interfaces between the access layer and the core layer. |
Core Layer | Layer of a borderless network that provides fault isolation and high-speed backbone connectivity. |
Fixed Configuration Switch | A switch that does not support features or options beyond those that originally came with the switch. |
Modular Configuration Switch | A switch with different sized chassis that allow for the installation of different numbers of modular line cards. |
Stackable Configuration Switch | A switch that can be interconnected using a special cable that provides high-bandwidth throughput with other switches. |
Modularity | The ability of a switch to adjust switching lines/port cards to provide integrated service on demand. |
Scalability | The ability of a network to adjust to the growth of network users. |
