Virus | a type of malware that, when executed, replicates by reproducing itself (copying its own source code) or infecting other computer programs by modifying them |
Spyware | software that enables a user to obtain covert information about another's computer activities by transmitting data covertly from their hard drive |
Malware | malicious software that is intended to damage or disable computers and computer systems |
Spam (noun) | a type of electronic spam where unsolicited messages are sent by email |
Spam (verb) | send the same message indiscriminately to (large numbers of recipients) on the Internet |
Phishing | the fraudulent practice of sending emails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers |
Social Media | websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking |
Intellectual Property | creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce |
Plagiarism | the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own |
Stock photo | professional photographs of common places, landmarks, nature, events or people that are bought and sold on a royalty-free basis and can be used and reused for commercial design purposes |
Digital Millennium Copyright Act | a 1998 US law intended to update copyright law for electronic commerce and electronic content providers. It criminalizes the circumvention of electronic and digital copyright protection systems |
digital watermark | a pattern of bits inserted into a digital image, audio or video file that identifies the file's copyright information |
