IP number (Internet Protocol number) | A unique number consisting of four parts separated by dots, for example 129.237.247.243. This is the number assigned to a host machine. |
Local Area Network (LAN) | Computers that are connected together in the same room, building, or nearby building. |
links | Connections that bridge one image, page, or word to another by clicking on a highlighted word or phrase. |
netiquette | Etiquette governing communications on the Internet. |
online resources | Internet information available to a computer user. |
online safety | Precautions taken to protect personal information and images from being misused by others. |

TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) | The programming protocols invented by individuals in the U.S. Department of Defense to carry messages around the Internet. |
Universal Resource Locator (URL) | The address that defines the route to a file on the Web or any other Internet facility. |
video conferencing | Teleconferencing in which still or moving pictures can be transmitted along with voice and text. |
virtual reality interfaces | The hardware and programming used to create the illusion of three-dimensional objects for on-screen virtual reality environments. |
virtual | With regard to memory, virtual refers to temporarily storing information on the hard drive. Virtual memory is controlled automatically by the operating system. |
web page | One document on the World Wide Web. It is usually a file written in Hypertext Markup Language, stored on a server. |
