AI | Techniques used in computer and video games to produce the illustration of intelligence in the behavior of non-player characters |
Anime | An abbreviation of the word "animation" and is used to describe animated movie and video content that originates in Japan |
Console | Generic term for video game hardware that is plugged into a television, such as Playstation, Wii U, or Xbox |
Cutscene | Non-interactive narrative scene that is used to break up gameplay, and further the story of the game |
ESA | US association exclusively dedicated to serving the business and public affairs needs of companies that publish video games |
ESRB Rating | Unbiased, standardized way to help you determine whether a video game is appropriate for your child |
First-person shooter | Type of computer game in which the player pretends to shoot a gun sees everything as it would appear to the person doing the shooting |
FPS/Frames Per Second | The measurement for the number of times an image is updated each second in a game |
Game Screens | Still images of the game, seen onilne or in magazines |
Genre | Video game genres are using to categorize video games based on their gameplay interaction |
Gone Gold | This gaming term means that a new video game si complete, and has been submitted for manufacturing |
Grind | A term used to describe repetitive gameplay that must be endured to gain access to later stages of a game |
Janky | A derogatory term used to describe something that is "not quite right." Very often associated with graphics, or animation that is less than perfect. |
Level | Generic terms used to describe a contained, sequential portion of gameplay |
Loot | Stuff collected or "won" when successfully completing parts of the game |
MMO/Massively Multiplayer Online | A type of online game in which a large number of people can participate |
Platform | Video game genre characterized by jumping to and from suspended stands or over obstacles |
Quest | A task given to the player with a game, often yielding some form of reward |
Realm | A description used in online games to describe a game world that only exists for the players within it |
RPG/Role Playing Game | Broad family of games in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative. |
Sceren Shot | A screenshot or screen capture is an image taken by the computer to record the visible items displayed on the monitor, television, or another visual output device |
Top down | Description of a game in which the action is viewed from above |
