Login procedures | If you use a network, you will have special login procedures that include a password known only to the user. Your login username limits the drives, folders and files that you can access. |
Disk storage | Access to storage devices can be restricted. For example, USB drives can be disabled and floppy disk drives can be removed. This helps protect files from loss or damage due to viruses spread when files are copied to network drives. |
File backup and copying procedures | By establishing procedures for backing up and copying files, you can protect your files from accidental deletion. |
Read only controls | You can protect a file from deletion and unauthorised revision by making it a "read-only" file. This means that the file can be opened, read on screen, or printed, but any changes must be saved using another file name. |
Password control | Just as a password can control your access to a computer network, you can create a password to control access to a particular file. Word has two password options: password to open; password to modify. |
