Term | Definition |
Algorithm | A set of clearly defined, logical steps that solve a problem. |
Application Software | Helps a person perform a specific task. |
Beta Testing | A process that releases commercial software in development to a cross-section of typical users who evaluate the program and report any problems, or "bugs" in the software before it is released to the public. |
Bundleware | Software bundled with hardware purchases. (-of a new computer.) |
Flowchart | Shows different paths the program will take depending on what data is inputted. |
Inputting | The process of using an input device to enter data. |
Network License | Gives the organization the right to the install a program on a server that can be accessed by a specific number of computers. |
Operating System | Provide an interface between the user or application and the computer hardware. |
Patch | When users purchase the original version of the software and download a fix for the problem. |
Service Pack | Is applied over software that a person has already installed. |
Single-User-License | Gives the right to install the software a single computer. |
Software | Is programming code written to provide instructions to the hardware it can perform tasks, such as printing, displaying a web page or dialog box, or saving a document on the hard disk. |
Software as a Service (SaaS) | Is a recently developed software delivery method where an application is licensed for use as a service. |
Software Development | Is a multistep process that usually begins when someone recognizes a need to perform a task more effectively using a computer. |
Software License | Gives you permission to use program. |
Software Piracy | Is the unauthorized copying of software. |
System Software | Refers to the operating system and all utility programs that manage computer resources. |
Update | Is a collection of files for revising released software to fix bugs or enhancements. |
Upgrade | Are revised versions of a software program and require the purchase of a newer version of the software. |
Web Application | They have no installation requirements, but can be used on all operating systems and are accessed through a Web browser over a network such as an Intranet or the Internet. |
