Uniform resource locator (URL) | a web sites own unique internet address that now other web site can use. |
Internet sevice provider (ISP) | a company that sells you access to the internet ,usually for a month fee. |
Web browser | a software program that lets you surf the web and interact with web sites. |
Electronic mail (e-mail) | another way that you can share information using the internet. |
Netiquette | refers to the good manners one uses in electronic communications. |
Spam | unwanted e-mail sent by an unknown person or business. |
Firewall | hardware or software that protects a computer or network from intruders. |
Search engine | a special kind of web site that lets you search for other web pages using keywords. |
Boolean search | a search that uses keywords plus special symbols to find the exact information you want by eliminating search result that are too general or too broad. |
Home page | the first page you see when your browser opens. |
Drill down | to find more specific information. |
Site map | an index of all of the main pages in the site that you may use to jump strait to a page without drilling down. |
Book mark | a short cut stored in your browser that takes you directly to a web page. |
Favorites | internet explorer's term for web site bookmark. |
History | a record kept by a browser of every web page visited in the past few days or weeks. |
Print Preview | allows you to view a page so you can see how it will look when it is printed. |
