Metaphor | A direct, non-literal comparison made between two dissimilar objects, actions, or traits. |
Alliteration | The repetition of sounds in two or more neighboring words or syllables. |
Rhyme Scheme | A pattern of rhyming words or lines (AABB, ABBA, etc.) |
Onomatopoeia | Naming a thing or action by imitating the sound associated with it. |
Personification | Giving human qualities to non-human things. |
Imagery | Creating a mental picture using words that appeal to any of the five senses. |
Oxymoron | A phrase of terms that contradicts each other. |
Pun | A play on words with humorous intent. |
