Drag | To hold down the left mouse button and move the mouse pointer over text to select it. |
Footer | A reserved area for text and graphics that displays at the bottom of each page in a document or section of a document. |
Formatting | The process of setting the overall appearance of the text within the document. |
Insertion Point | The location in the Word window, indicated by a blinking vertical line, where text will be inserted when you start to type. |
Point | A unit of measure to describe the size of a font. |
Sans Serif | A font type, such as Calibri or Arial that is without lines (or feet) on the ends of characters. |
Serif | A font type such as Cambria or Times New Roman, that has extensions or lines (feet) on the ends of the characters. |
Shortcut Menu | A context-sensitive list that displays when you click the right mouse button. |
Title Bar | In the Word window, the location of the Minimize, Maximize/Restore Down, and Close buttons. |
Wordwrap | The action that takes place when the insertion point reaches the right margin and automatically moves down to the left margin of the next line. |
Italic | A typeface with letters slanted slightly to the right, used to emphasize words. |
Bold | A set of type characters that are darker and heavier than normal. It shows importance. |
Underline | A line under a typeface of any kind. It shows importance. |
Clipart | a collection of pictures or images that can be imported into a document or another program |
Drawing | utilizing any of the shapes |
Workspace | the area and tools available for creating documents |
Maximize | Make the work area bigger |
Minimize | Make the work area smaller |
Word Art | Decorative Text |
Font Color | What color your typeface is going to be |
Insert picture | a tool that allows the insertion of a picture from your computer file |
Painting | using color to fill shapes |
Print Preview | allows a user to view what a printed version of the document would look like on the screen before printing a hard copy |
Scroll Bar | A vertical or horizontal bar commonly located on the far right or bottom of a window that allows a user to move the window viewing area up, down, left, or right |
Close | Exit out of that page or tab |
Cut | removes the selection from the document and adds it to the clipboard |
Paste | insert the contents of the clipboard into a document |
Copy | duplicates the selection and puts it in the clipboard |
Window Border | The outside surrounding your page or tab open, used to adjust size of work space when in restore down mode |
Ruler | used to measure and line up objects in your document |
