Term | Definition |
Access Copyright | A non-profitable Canadian organization, which ensures that publishers are paid when consumers use their work. |
Copyright | A right that enables you to make copies, license, and use others work in any media form. |
Intellectual Property | The idea that an individual owns their unique, creative thoughts. |
Royalty | The payments that the consumers give to the owners when the consumer wishes to use the owner's work. |
Trademarks | Something that distinguishes a good from others who produce the same good. |
Public Domain | When a literary work is available to the public without the restrictions of copyright. |
Moral Rights | Refers to the author's ability to control what happens to their work. Moral rights are the rights of the creator. |
Performing Rights | The ability to perform music in front of others. It demands that the music's composer and publisher receive royalties with a 50/50 split. |
Plagiarism | Taking credit for someone else's work. |
Fair Dealing | Allows an individual to use a work that they otherwise may not be able to use due to copyright restrictions. The individual must be using the work for a strict set of purposes. |
Patent | Legal ownership of a new idea. |
Blanket License | Allows individuals to play or perform songs as many times as they want while using a single license. |
