Term | Definition |
Access copyright | Company that collects copyright revenues and gives it to the rightful owners of the copyrighted work. |
Copyright | Only the copyright owner has the right to produce or let others reproduce or sell a certain work of theirs. |
Intellectual Property | Legal rights that result from intellectual activity. Usually non-physical objects such as lyrics to a song. |
Royalty | A usage based payment for the right to the use of intellectual property. |
Trade-Marks | A word or design used to identify the goods or services of a group or company. |
Public Domain | Work that belongs to the public |
Moral Rights | Personal to the creator/author no matter who owns the copyright. |
Performing Rights | The right to perform music in public. |
Plagiarism | An act that challenges intellectual honesty. For example handing in someone else's work or improperly citing someone else's work. |
Fair Dealing | It is an exception to the exclusive right presented by the copyright law. |
Patent | A right that is granted by the government to exclude others from making, using, and selling your invention in Canada. |
Blanket License | Allows TV and radio stations to play music without having to acquire the rights to the song each time they play it. |
