| What is aside? | a theatre convention in which an actor may deliver a line to the audience or to a specific actor onstage and it is understood that the other characters do not hear it. |
| What is conflict? | Tension between two or more characters which leads to a crisis or climax. |
| What is denoument? | The working out of the resolution in a well made play. The wrap of the story after the climax. Also called the conclusion. |

| What is a flat? | A single piece of scenery, usually of standard size, made of light-weight wood or canvas stretched over a wooden frame. |
| What is perspective? | The art of creating the illusion of depth on a flat surface. Discovered by the Italians. |
| What is rake? | An upward slope of the stage floor away from the audience. |
| What is soliloquy? | A speech delivered by a character in a play when he or she is alone onstage. Can be his/her thoughts or directly to audience. |
| What are stage directions? | Given from the actors point of view facing the audience. Left, right, up, down, and center. Allows the director to precisely communicate his blocking to the actor. |
