Question | Answer |
Contiguous | Files (or text) located next to each other in a folder (or document). |
Purge | To clear out, delete, or erase completely. |
Operating System | Software that allocates system resources, manages storage space and helps the computer perform essential tasks such as displaying information on the screen and saving data. |
WYSIWYG | Used to describe a system in which content (text and graphics) displayed onscreen looks the same as it does when it is printed or displayed as a finished product. |
Style | A set of formatting options that you can apply to selected text by clicking its icon on the ribbon. |
Backstage View | The File tab of the Ribbon, which provides access to file level options and program settings. |
Contextual Tab | A Ribbon tab that contains commands related to the selected object so you can manipulate, edit, and format that object. |
Theme | Controls a variety of colors fonts and other visual effects available. |
Parenthetical Reference | In an MLA documented paper, referring to an author and the page number of a source within the text of the paper. |
Footnote | An explanatory comment or references that appears at the bottom of a page where such information can be inserted. |
Gallery | A menu or grid that shows a visual representation of the options available when you click a button. |
Function | A named operation that returns a value; used to simplify formulas. |
Absolute Cell Reference | A cell reference that remains fixed when the cell formula is copied to a new location. |
Relative Cell Reference | A cell reference that is interpreted in relation to the location of the cell containing the formula. |
Conditional Format | Formatting that is applied only when a cell’s value meets a specified condition. |
Embed | To insert the copy of an object in the destination file, along with a link to the source program, allowing the user to edit the object using the source program’s commands. |
Argument | The numbers, text or cell references used by the function to return a value. |
Filter | A set of restrictions placed on the data to isolate a subset of the data. |
Cell Range | A group of cells which can be either adjacent or nonadjacent. |
Value | Numbers which can be used for calculations, right aligned within the cell. |
Label | Text or numbers which cannot be used for calculations, left aligned within the cell. |
Primary Key | A field or collection of fields, whose values uniquely identify each record in a database table. |
Datasheet | The display of a table’s contents in rows and columns where each row is a separate record and each column contains the field values for one field in the table. |
Form | A database object created and customized to maintain, view, and print records in a database in different and useful ways. |
Relational Database | A collections of related tables stored in the same file. |
Field | A single characteristic or attribute of a person, place, object, event, or idea. |
Record | A complete set of field values for a specific person, place, object, event, or idea. |
Table | A collection of fields that describe a person, place, object, event or idea. |
Query | A question asked by the user about the data stored in a database. In response, the database displays the specific records and fields that answer your question. |
Design View | The database view you use to define or modify a table structure or the properties of the fields in a table. |
