| Software piracy | Is the unauthorised copying, reproduction, use, or manufacture of software products. It can occur when an individual illegally installs software on his or her own machine.

| Intellectual property | Is the intangible property resulting from the fruits of mental labour. The owner, can protect this by using the copyright laws. An example of is the artworks of Leonardo Da Vinci of which was procured due to his own creativity.

| Plagiarism | Is the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own. Any contribution to a project needs to be acknowledged and work obtained from other sources should never be said to be your own.

| Shareware | Is software that is distributed free on a trial basis with the understanding that the user may need or want to pay for it later. It is covered by copyright. Purchasers are allowed to make and distribute copies of the software.

| Freeware | Is programming that is offered at no cost and is a common class of small applications available for downloading and use in most operating systems. Because it may be copyrighted, you may or may not be able to reuse it in programming you are developing.

| Public Domain Software | Is software that is not protected by a copyright and so there is no particular owner or the author has given up ownership rights, leaving the software available for everyone for use. A modern example is SQLite.

| Copyright Law | Are laws that protect authors from plagiarism of their intellectual property in respects to their genre. In Australia, copyright protection is provided under the Copyright Act 1968 and is granted automatically when an original work is made.

| Reverse Engineering | Is the analysis of a program by examining its source code and structure in order to develop a similar product, or a product that interfaces with the product being analysed. A mostly undocumented albeit amazing example is Win34 API.

| Decompilation | Is the process of converting machine executable code into assembler code so it can be more easily understood. This process is often necessary when the executable code needs to be modified and the programmer doesn’t have access to the source code.

| Network use | Or networking is the construction, design, and use of a network, including the physical elements, the selection and use of telecommunication protocol and computer software for using and managing the network.
