Inventor
Invention/How does it work?
Blaise Pascal (1623-1662)   In 1642 he designed a mechanical calculating device called Pascaline that only performed addition and the device never worked properly.
🗑
Gottfried Wilhem von Liebniz (1646-1716)   In 1670 he invented a digital mechanical calculator called the Stepped Reckoner,The machine does multiplication by repeated addition, and division by repeated subtraction.
🗑
Charles Babbage (1792-1871)   In 1842 he invented an analytical engine-calculating machine that used punch cards to store information.
🗑
Herman Hollerith (1860-1929)   In 1890 he invented the tabulating machine that used electricity instead of gears and to perform the calculations. It was developed to help process data and assist people in summarizing information.
🗑
John Atanasoff (1903-1995) Clifford Berry (1918-1963)   In 1939 him and his colleague invented the Atanasoff-Berry computer (ABC) that used binary number system used in computers today. It was also the first automatic electronic digital computer
🗑
Howard H. Aiken (1900-1973)   In 1944 he invented the Mark 1(ASCC which was the first large-scale automatic digital computer, that was considered the first universal calculator.
🗑
John Mauchly (1907-1980) J. Presper Eckert (1919-1995)   In 1946 invented an Electronic Numerical Integration and Calculator (ENIAC) solves mathematical problems much more faster and was originally a military project that was top secret. it was programmed to solve a large class of numerical problems
🗑
Alan Turing (1912-1954)   In the late 30s and 40s he developed and idea of a universal machine called the turing machine.
🗑
Jon von Neuman (1903-1957)   In 1947 he invented the EDVAC (Electronic Discrete Variable Automatic Computer) with Mauchly and Eckert. It was one of the earliest computers.
🗑
William Shockley (1910-1989) John Bardeen (1908-1991) Walter Brattain (1902-1987)   In 1947 they invented the transistor that replaced many tubes, making computers smaller, less expensive, and reliable.
