hardware   All the physical components that make up the system unit plus the other devices connected to it, such as a keyboard or monitor; also includes other peripherals and devices.

peripheral device   A connected device located outside of (or peripheral to) the computer but typically controlled by it; for example, a keyboard, mouse, webcam, or printer.

main memory   Primary storage or random access memory (RAM) that consists of banks of electronic chips that provide temporary storage for instructions and data during processing.

hard copy   Output produced in tangible form, such as on paper or plastic.

soft copy   Output produced in intangible or temporary form, which can be viewed on a computer screen but not physically handled.

storage device   A hardware component that houses a storage medium that provides more permanent storage of programs, data, and information; you can later retrieve the stored data to work with it. Also called secondary storage.

communications device   A device that makes it possible for multiple computers to exchange instructions, data, and information.

modem   An electronic device that converts computer-readable information into a form that can be transmitted and received over a communications system.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.
 
To hide a column, click on the column name.
 
To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.
 
You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.
 
Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
