Homeostasis All organisms need to keep their internal environment relatively stable even when external conditions change dramatically
Biosphere Living planet
Metabolism The combination of chemical reactions through which an organism builds up or breaks down materials
Asexual reproduction A single organism produces offspring identical to itself
Sexual reproduction Cells from 2 parents unite to form the first cell of a new organism
Stimulus A signal to which an organism responds
DNA Complex info stored by all organisms they need to live, grow and reproduce in a genetic code written in a molecule
Biology Study of life
Bias A particular point of view that is personal not scientific
Theory Evidence from many scientific studies may support several related hypothesis in a way that inspires researchers to propose a scientific theory
Data Detailed records of experimental observations;gathering info; quantitative and qualitative
Control group Exposed to the same conditions as the experimental group except one independent variable
Dependent variable Responding variable, changes in response to the independent variable
Independent variable Manipulated variable
Controlled experiment An experiment when only one variable is changed; everything else does not change
Hypothesis A scientific explanation for a set of observations that can be tested in ways that support or reject it
Inferences A logical interpretation based on what scientists already know
Observation The act of noticing and describing events or processes in a careful, orderly way
Science An organized way of gathering and analyzing evidence about the natural world
