Biology Notcards

QuestionAnswer
scientific Method the series of steps followed to solve problems including collecting data, formulating, a hypothesis, stating a hypothesis, and conclusion
obsercation the process of obtaining information by useing the senses
Hypothesis an idea or explaniation that is based on an observation that can be tested
Prediciton a statement made in advance that expresses the results that will be obtained from the testing of a hypothesis; the expected outcome if the hypothsis is accurate
Experiment a procedure that is carried out under controlled circumstances to discover demostrate or or test a fact
Control Group In an experiment a group that serves as an comparison for another group; the control is identical except for one difference
Experiment Group is identical to the control group except for one factor that is compared to the control group
Independent Variable in an experiment the factor that is deliberatley manipulated
Dependednt variable in an experiment the factor that changes as due to a result as a manipulation of one or more other factors
Theory an explanation for some phenonenom that is based on experimentation, and reasoning that is supported by a large quantity of evidence and that does not conflict with any other existing experimental results or observations.
Peer Review tne process inwhich experts in a given field examine the results and conclusions of a scientist study before it can be accepted for publication
