| scientific method | an organized approach that characterizes science |
| observation | the act of preserving a natural occurence that causes someone to ask a question |
| hypothesis | proposed explination for the way a particular aspect of the natural world functions |
| prediction | statement that forcasts what would happen in a test situation if the hypothesis were true |
| expiriment | used to test a hypothesis and it's predictions |
| control group | provides a normal standard against which the biologist can compare the results of the expiremental group |
| expiremental group | identical to te control with the addition of the independent variable |
| independent variable | the variable minipulated in the expiremental group |
| dependant variable | effected by the independent variable (the responding variable) |
| theory | a set of confirmed true hypothesis that can be explained with a great ammount of data |
| peer review | scientists who are an expert in the field anonymously read and critique the research paper |
