Bio Vocab List 1.1 - Scientific Method

TermDefinition
Scientific Method problem solving procedure
Hypothesis a prediction that can be tested
Theory a well-tested explanation, supported by many types of evidence
Writing a Hypothesis "If, ... Then, ... " sentance
Cause and Effect relationship between hypothesis and successful result
Subject thing being experimented on, usually person/animal/plant/etc.
Variable any aspect of the experiment; can affect the experiment/outcome
Control Group all variables must be kept the same, used for comparison or normal 'baseline'
Experimental Group all variables are kept the same EXCEPT for variable being tested
Independent Variable what is being changed/tested
Dependent Variable what is being measured/observed
Sources of Error things that may change the experiment, making it invalid
