isotope an atom of an element having the same number of protons and electrons but a different number of neutrons than most atoms of the element
lipid a group of organic compounds containing fats
molecule the smallest unit of a compound; composed of two or more atoms chemically combined
monosaccharide a simple sugar; a carbohydrate molecule composed of a single saccharide unit
nucleic acid a complex organic molecule composed of necleotides
protein a group of nitrogen-containing organic compounds formed of amino acids
synthesis reaction formation of a molecule by combining atoms of simpler molecules
