Channel Management

QuestionAnswer
Channel of distribution path a product takes from producer or manufacturer to final user
Direct distribution goods or services are sold by the producer directly to the final user; no intermediaries are involved
Distribution the locations and methods used to make the product available to customers; also referred to as the place element of the marketing mix
Indirect distribution goods or services are sold indirectly, through one or more intermediaries
Intermediaries channel members that help move products from the producer or manufacturer to the final user
Inventory the assortment of products maintained by a business
Invoice an itemized billing statement with terms of payment for the order
Just-in-time inventory level is kept low and resupplied just as it is needed
Physical distribution the process of efficiently and effectively moving products and materials through the distribution channel; logistics
Purchase order a form listing te variety, quantity, and prices of products ordered
Receiving record a completed listing of all the merchandise received in the shipment and its condition
Retailer the final business organization in an indirect channel of distribution for consumer products
Vendor someone who promotes or exchanges goods or services for money
Wholesaler company that assists with distribution activities between businesses
