Molecular recognition is an important property for life processes.

QuestionAnswer
What is one of the most fundamental aspects of life? The capacity of a cell to be selective in which chemicals are exchanged with the environment.
Define hormones. Chemicals produced by endocrine glands that are involved in communication systems. They have a shape that complements the receptor protein in the cell membrane.
Define adrenalin and state its function. A hormone from the adrenal glands. It binds to the protein receptors on the surface of liver cells and activates a series of steps that convert glycogen to glucose that is released into the bloodstream and used for cellular respiration.
Define insulin and how it works. Insulin is a hormone that binds to a receptor molecule in the cell membrane. as a result, glucose transporters are activated leading to a greater uptake of glucose into the cell.
