Sensory Papillae Taste Buds
Esophagus Located at back of mouth. where the pig swallows food
Epiglottis A cone shaped structure at the back of the mouth, a flap of skin to help close this opening what a pig swallows.
Pharynx A cavity in the back of the mouth, it is the junction for food(esophagus) and air(trachea)
External Nares These are found on the nose (nostrils)
Pinna a flexable outer flap. Helps the pig hear by focusing the sound into the middle ear
Vibrissae Sensory facial hair. Help find there way around in the dark
Nictitating Membrane a small mass of tissue in the upper corner. Keeps the eyes clean!

Abdomen Stomach
Umbilical Cord Outside the body. 3 BLOOD vessels
Nipples Paired row on the ventral surface of the abdomen on both sexes
Hard Palate It is the ridge part of the mouth
Soft Palate A fleshy portion of the roof of the mouth and lies caudal to t he hard palate.
Incisors Located in the very front of the oral cavity
Cheek Teeth Located towards the back of the oral cavity
Masseter Muscle Works the jaw Lymph nodes Salivary glands- look like chewing gum
Pharynx A common passage for food going to the esophagus and air going to the lungs
Esophageal opening the entrance to the esophagus
Diaphragm THe muscle that divides the thoratic and the abdominal cavity and is located near the ribcage. Aids in breathing
Liver The structure is lobed and is the largest organ in the body. Responsible in making bile for digestion.
Gall Bladder Greenish organ located underneath the liver the bile duct attaches to the gall bladder to the duodenum the gall bladder stores bile and sends it to the duodenum via the bile duct
Stomach A pouch shaped organ that rests just underneath and to the pig's left.It is responsible for churning and breaking down food
Cardiac Sphincter Valve Pyloric Sphincter Valve Regulate food entering and leaving the stomach. At the esophagus is the Cardiac Sphincter Valve and at the duodenum is the Pyloric Sphincter Valve
Small Intestine Inside are villi that increase the surface area so that more nutrients can be absorbed
Ileum The curly part of the small intestine
Duodenum The straight part of the small intestine
Mesentery Holds the ileum together. nutrients are absorbed by this type of artery
