enzymes

QuestionAnswer
What are enzymes? Enzymes are proteins that speed up chemical reactions.
Where are the instructions for making enzymes found? The instructions for making enzymes are found in a cell's genes.
What is an active site? The part where a substrate joins on to the enzyme.
What is the lock and key model? It is when the substrate fits in to the enzyme just like a key fits in to a lock.
What happens to the enzyme when the temperature increases and gets too hot? Some of the bonds that are holding the enzymes together break.
What happens to the active site when the temperature gets too hot? The shape of the active site changes so the substrate doesn't fit.
