Parts of a Cell (ES)
The parts of a cell.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Cell Membrane | Form a barrier between the inside of a cell and the outside, so that the chemical environments can be different. Commonly found in animals. |
| Cytoskeleton | Supports cell and provides shape. Aids material in and out of the cell. |
| Mitochondria | Controls level of water and other materials. Recycles and decomposes proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. |
| Nucleus | Contains most of a cell’s genetic material. |
| Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) | Manufactures membranes and secretary membranes. |
| Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) | Carbohydrates and lipid synthesis. |
| Golgi Apparatus | Modifies, sorts, and packages proteins and other materials from the ER for storage. |
| Lysosome | Digestive system of the cell for proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. Transports undigested material to the cell membrane for removal. |
| Vacuole | Membrane-bound sacs for storage, digestion, and waste removal. |
| Chloroplast | Contains green chlorophyll where photosynthesis takes place. |
| Cell Wall | Surrounds plasma membrane. Commonly found in plants. |
| Cytoplasm | A jellylike substance flowing between the nucleus and the cell membrane. |
| Ribosomes | Makes protein for the cell. |
| Cell | Basic living unit of an organism. |
| Chromosomes | Contains an organism's entire gnome, or genetic material. |
| Centrosome | Distribute microtubules for motor proteins to transport vesicles. Moves the micro tubes around so they can send out spindle fibers to attach to the centromeres on the chromosomes. |
