Parts of a Cell (BS)

QuestionAnswer
Nucleus The "brain" of the cell. It controls the cell.
Cytoplasm A liquid that fills the cell. Mostly consists of water.
Ribosomes Synthesizes polypeptide chains that become protein
Cell Basic living unit of a living organism.
Cell Membrane Controls what enters and leaves the cell.
Cell Wall Protects everything in the cell.
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum Helps produce protein and DNA structures.
Golgi Complex Package and transport materials out of the cell.
Mitochondria Generates the cells energy using sugar and oxygen.
Chloroplast Uses energy from the sun to convert carbon dioxide and water into sugar.
Lysosomes Contain digestive enzymes to break down materials.
Vacuole Stores food, water, and waste.
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum Detoxifies harmful substances.
Cytoskeleton Helps the cell maintain its shape and gives support to the cell.
Chromosomes Contains an organism’s entire gnome, or genetic material.
Centrosome Moves the microtubules around so they can send out spindle fibers to attach to the centromeres on the chromosomes.
