Immunology Terms

QuestionAnswer
What is a Neurophil? A type of white blood cell, a granulocyte that is filled with microscopic granules, little sacs containing enzymes that digest microorganisms. Also known as polymorphonuclear leukocyte or poly.
What is a Monocyte? A large phagocytic white blood cell with a simple oval nucleus and clear, grayish cytoplasm.
What is a Red Blood Cell? a mature blood cell that contains hemoglobin to carry oxygen to the bodily tissues; a biconcave disc that has no nucleus
What are T Cells? a small lymphocyte developed in the thymus; it orchestrates the immune system's response to infected or malignant cells
What are B Cells? a lymphocyte derived from bone marrow that provides humoral immunity
