OCR Ecosystems

QuestionAnswer
What is an ecosystem? A group of living and non-living organisms occuring together and the interrelationships between them.
Examples of biotic factors Food supply, predation, disease and competition.
Examples of abiotic factors pH of the soil, temperature and types of soil.
What is a producer? Autotropic organisms that convert light energy into chemical energy, which they then supply to consumers.
What is a consumer? Living organisms that feed on other organisms.
What is a decomposer? Organisms that feed on dead organic matter, releasing molecules, minerals and energy that then become available to other living organisms in that ecosystem.
What is a trophic level? The level at which an organism feeds in a food chain.
