| What is an ecosystem? | A group of living and non-living organisms occuring together and the interrelationships between them. |
| Examples of biotic factors | Food supply, predation, disease and competition. |
| Examples of abiotic factors | pH of the soil, temperature and types of soil. |
| What is a producer? | Autotropic organisms that convert light energy into chemical energy, which they then supply to consumers. |
| What is a consumer? | Living organisms that feed on other organisms. |
| What is a decomposer? | Organisms that feed on dead organic matter, releasing molecules, minerals and energy that then become available to other living organisms in that ecosystem. |
| What is a trophic level? | The level at which an organism feeds in a food chain. |
