Immune Attack
Science
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Fibroblasts | most abundant cell in connective tissue. Produces strong and springy fibers that make up support system for connective tissue. |
| C3a | the immune system's emergency flare. Complements (Chemicals) are dissolved in fluid surrounding body tissue, when they touch bacteria they explode, releasing chemical signals. Macrophages follow the chemical signals to find invading bacteria. |
| Selectin | big (macro) molecules that help immune system cells find where they need to go. They mark part of a blood vessel near an infection. |
| ICAM | Intercellular Adhesion Molecules. Macro molecules on surface of cells that allow one cell to stick to another. Immune system cells use ICAMs to stick to where they are needed. |
| Pseudomonas | release toxins in bodies that are already sick or that have weakened immune systems. They cause diseases. |
| Monocytes | large white blood cells. They migrate into the connective tissue where they become macrophages and move to kill invading bacteria. |
